Nearly there but first, a challenge!

For those who knows me well enough knows that I like a challenge, when presented at the right time. I use it as a self discovery tool hence why it’s so important that the timing is right and decision is made after careful consideration.

A challenge to me should be something that could either make or break me and by now, I’ve been through so many I know I’ll come out the other side as a better me either way.

This one came during a dinner conversation…

Friend: You should do a birthday challenge

Me: What birthday challenge?

Friend: Climb 40 routes…?

Didn’t take much to convince me and the conversation quickly move on to what grades to climb and where. It took me a few days to think it over before I decide to do it, of course with a condition that it’ll be documented.

Saturday 28th April, it was THE day! The conversation in my head that morning goes like this, ‘why did I decide to do this again’ ‘you need the push, enough with the knee thing’ ‘ what if I break?’ ‘what if you don’t?’…’breathe and just see what happens’.

13 out of 40, the challenge brought me to my knees and I was beaten, had my a** handed to me. With the support of good friends and a change of scene, I got back up and finished the rest of them.

The climbing community provides great support, learning experiences and the eagerness to see others succeed in their objectives is more than any that I know of. Growth mindset, very refreshing. This is also why I love climbing so much!

By the time I was on this boulder, there were a few onlookers and I can feel their positive energy willing me to send the route. It wasn’t a hard problem, just the focus required to stay balanced on the wall is a bit intense. What an amazing experience?!

I do feel that we’re not allowing ourselves to fail enough to learn about who we are. The experiences are invaluable, gaining maturity alongside wisdom that will help us live a fulfilled life.

Failure is ok, learn from it and create a better you!

Have an awesome weekend peeps x
