Fear stricken

‘Oh no…it’s gonna slipped, not again!’

Heart thumping and I’m frozen on a move that would have been easy a month ago. Fear is very powerful and it conjures up all the emotions that will stop anything and everything in its path.

I was anxious, I was apprehensive, I was stressed and I was panicking, everything that I shouldn’t be when it’s a route that is well within my repertoire of climbing abilities. I told myself, ‘let’s break this down and work on it, I CAN do this’. I had to recover pretty quickly if I want to keep pushing for what I want to achieve.

Time off the wall, I get to assess and reassess the state that I’m in. Focus and take stock, reflect and take action. One day at a time, visualise and take the fall.

Fear can stop us from pursuing many things in life. Whatever the fear is, I truly believe that the process to address it is similar, taking small progressive steps and address the primitive survival instinct.

The solution was to accept what had happened, acknowledge the impact, visualise potential future falls and consequences. I have someone I trust belaying me and I know I’m in safe hands while I push through the fear and just take the risk. Now out I go and fall!

So, is fear stopping you from doing what you want to do??? Perhaps it’s time to reflect and take action 😉
