Canadian getaway

After a last minute planning and organising, my sister and I managed to put together a short trip to Canada. Trying to figure out the balance between city and nature is hard but I think we made it worked. The destinations, city will be Montreal and for nature we’ll be spending some time in Gatineau.

For a country teeming with nature, I wanted to just go straight to the national parks instead of spending time in the city. After a summer being outdoors most of the time, I look forward to long walks in the woods and the simple calm surrounding.

Those of you with tips on picking up French, let me know. As if I don’t have enough languages to learn already 😀

So Montreal…I like it cos it’s not as busy and bustling as other tourist cities that I’ve been and there are enough greens around to keep me happy. There are variety of foods around to try and the famous poutine, good but the sauce is a little on the heavy side on both taste and texture for my liking. As always, a visit to the local market and Chinatown is a must. Love the market and boy, do Canadian know how to eat well!

Whilst the city provided a lot of the entertainment and culture, I was looking forward to the countryside with forest and lakes. I underestimated the size of the park and there were so many places to hike plus it was a great place to cycle too. Fortunately, there were loads of fungi and fishes in the lakes to fascinate my sister. I wasn’t sure if the place was interesting enough for her but phew…all good.

All said, it was more about spending time with my sister and getting to know her a bit more. Another memory created, invaluable to me in every sense. The concept of family has always been different for me since I spent more time with friends than family from a very young age. My sister has definitely taught me more in the little time that I spent with her than in my adult life trying to figure it out. It’s not about how related we are, it’s about the respect, care and love in the relationship. Thanks sis!
